WHERE AM I: THE SEMANTICS OF LOCATION
Working Solutions for
Atlanta Metro Region

This session will address the problem of semantics in communicating about location.  Many problems result from difference in describing location, business processes, and data.  The session will describe how deployment of semantic servers in Atlanta Metro Region can resolve a number of critical business and community issues.  The session will also discuss the role of Semantic Technologies in addressing issues with Web Services and Business Processes.

Within the last several years there have been huge advances in resolving semantic conflicts and a number of technologies have emerged and been adopted.  Semantic technologies describe a set of new technologies and web
services that solve a critical technical issue--what does something mean. Any systems or data integration project contends with problems of understanding the meaning of data.  Recent advances in the field of semantic has created new frameworks and technologies for resolving semantic conflicts.

The session will provide an overview of semantic technologies. It will describe various evolving standards, open source and commercial technologies, and various semantic frameworks.  It will also describe how a 'semantic solution' can be deployed to help resolve present geospatial information challenges in the Atlanta region.
