LOCATION-ENABLED GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

Dr. DAVID E. STONE
Harvard Industrial Partnership, Harvard University

Local communities of practice are in need of learning from global experience as global organizations have IP that is distributed globally.

Knowing where the knowledge is located is critical to decision making and business process management in government and business.

Knowledge is dynamic and ever-changing.

Knowledge is stored in different languages and institutional cultures.

Knowledge management means:

* Locating the knowledge you need

* Accessing the knowledge you need

* Integrating the knowledge you need from multiple, often geographically distributed, sources

* Applying that knowledge to critical community and business problems.
