BRYAN G. NORTON
Professor of Philosophy in the School of Public Policy,
Georgia Institute of Technology. 

Specializing in environmental policy, Dr. Norton writes on inter-generational equity, sustainability theory, bio-diversity policy and on valuation methods.

His current research is directed at clarifying spatio-temporal bounding in the formulation of environmental problems, while ongoing research addresses intergenerational ethics and sustainability, biodiversity policy, and environmental pragmatism. 

Dr. Norton is author of Why Preserve Natural Variety? (Princeton University Press, 1987); Toward Unity Among Environmentalists (Oxford University Press, 1991); Searching for Sustainability (Cambridge University Press, 2002) and Sustainability: A Philosophy of Adaptive Ecosystem Management (University of Chicago Press, , 2005).  He is editor of The Preservation of Species (Princeton University Press) and co-editor of  several volumes; he has contributed to journals in philosophy, biology, ecology, economics, ecological economics, and environmental management. 

Dr. Norton has served on numerous panels, including the Environmental Economics Advisory Committee of the EPA Science Advisory Board.  He was a Research Associate at the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy, University of Maryland (1981-83) and was Gilbert White Fellow at Resources for the Future (1985-86).  He was a member of the Governing Board of the Society for Conservation Biology and has recently completed three terms as a member of the Board of Directors of Defenders of Wildlife.
