Late night during the 4th of July 2019 holiday weekend, I received a phone call from Dr. Benjamin Barden, our sport medicine doctor, after he received results of my MRI scan: Sorry I cannot help you anymore, you need to find the best oncologist in town. It was not so easy on such short notice; but superbly helpful Rachel Veldman at EMORY New Patient office was able to arrange my first appointment with Dr. AJAY TADEPALLI: my first 4 therapies. And finally he transfered me to Dr. CRAIG C. HOFMEISTER at EMORY main campus at Clifton Rd, Atlanta for clinical trials as shown below.

Multiple myeloma is a blood cancer of white blood cells called plasma cells. Plasma cells come from the bone marrow and they produce antibodies (also called immunoglobulins) that fight wide variety of infections. Antibodies are made up of two parts: heavy chains and light chains. When myeloma progresses, the myeloma cells start to produce more light chains than heavy chains. In general, the higher the free light chains, the more aggressive the disease is. There are two types of light chains: kappa and lambda. If a patient has kappa myeloma, their doctor will watch for a rise in the kappa numbers. Likewise, if a patient has lambda myeloma, the lambda number will be watched.

Normal range of free Lambda is 5.7- 26.3 mg/mL
